I actually have a degree in Aerospace Engineering which teaches the design of planes and spacecraft. However the great thing about engineering is it opens so many doors, everything is based on Maths and Physics so you can apply what you know to loads of different types of jobs.

My Work:
I am an Aerospace Engineering graduate currently working to support submarines and warships in the Devonport Naval Base. Recently I have been performing structural analysis to ensure that shock events (proximity detonations) do not cause equipment and the ship structure to fail.

Submarines can be underwater for months at a time and have to deal with extreme conditions. This means that when they do return to port they need a lot of repairs due to rust and general damage, my work involves making sure that these repairs are completed and that the submarine is ready again as soon as possible.
-
My Typical Day:
I actually start work quite early, usually getting to the base for 7:30am. My day to day work changes quite a lot but if I am lucky I can get aboard one of the submarines for some inspections. I go home at 3:30pm which gives some nice time to go the gym or just relax.

How would you describe yourself in 3 words?
Submarine/Naval Engineer
What did you want to be after you left school?
I actually wanted to be a Pilot originally.
Were you ever in trouble at school?
Only a few times, I like to think I was a very good student but you would need to ask my teachers for an unbiased answer.
If you weren't doing this job, what would you choose instead?
I would be an aerospace engineer, I have always loved aircraft and actually have a degree in it as well.
Who is your favourite singer or band?
I don't think I actually have a clear favourite.
What's your favourite food?
You can't beat a good Pizza.
If you had 3 wishes for yourself what would they be? - be honest!
1) To have photographic memory. 2) To have a nice house where it snows loads. 3) Time travel of course.
Tell us a joke.
Normal people think "If it isn't broke, don't fix it" Engineers think "If it isn't broke, it needs more features"
