I grew up in Birmingham my whole life and when I was 18 moved to Wales for a few months to work as a performer! I then went to university in Nottingham where I did my undergrad in Biochemistry. I then took a year out of study and moved to Manchester. After this I then moved back home to Birmingham to study my masters degree in molecular biotechnology. Since then, I’ve been working at The Binding Site and have worked my way up to a specialist role.

My Typical Day:
I wake up and travel to work. When I get to work I have my breakfast before I start (usually I have porridge and a coffee). I start working at 7am, and usually start by planning my day, and preparing for any meetings. After this I’ll start my project work, I have lunch in the middle of the day where I usually go for a walk and then head back to finish off my day.

In my job, I write and approve new procedures or changes to old ones. I also create and manage new versions of quality control documents. I design and write plans for investigations and also write and review reports on these. If I find any problems, I tell the right people and suggest ways to fix and improve things.

What I'd do with the prize money:
With £500, I can improve STEM outreach in my community by purchasing hands-on science kits for local schools and community centres. I will host interactive workshops and classes with local experts, and start a STEM club with necessary supplies. Additionally, I’ll arrange field trips to science museums and tech companies, covering transportation and entry fees. Finally, I’ll fund community science projects, such as a biology-focused garden, and support local school initiatives.
-
Education:
My love for science started in primary school as I had an incredible science and maths teacher! This love crossed over into my secondary school, college and university studies.
