      There is evidence that it still has a molten iron core. It started out as a liquid body, essentially splashed out of the earth by a MASSIVE collision with the earth back about 4.5-billion years ago years ago, probably with something about the size of Mars. Immediately after the collision, it was completely molten and has slowly solidified since then, but leaves a small iron core of about 450 km radius.
