A few words from Tom
Thanks for all the votes, I have taken great enjoyment in sharing my experience and thoughts with school pupils of all ages. I hope that I have explained the difference between scientists and engineers coherently, and shown how STEM careers can be full of creativity.
I feel very lucky that my career so far has given me varied and somewhat interesting things to talk about, it feels like cheating to have been working in the space sector for most of the period that I have been doing this outreach!
My thanks to the site admin for keeping everything running, the moderators for managing the onslaughts of messages, the teachers for engaging with STEM in this way, and the children for their entertaining and insightful questions. I am thrilled to receive the prize to put towards future outreach, I intend to use it to build an injection mould tool demonstrator to take into local schools in Edinburgh.
How is the winner chosen?
Each student has 1 vote to give to an engineer each academic year, and whoever gets the most votes, wins! It’s as simple as that.
But wait, there’s more: The winner earns £500 to spend in further STEM engagement!
Want to choose who wins those £500? Vote for your favourite engineer in the Ask page!💬
