Where I grew up meant that I relied on bridges to get from one place to another. And as a working port for maintenance of oil rigs, we always used to see them in the harbour towering over the town. This was part of what made me become an Engineer – my curiosity of how these things stood up and how bridges worked.

Studying physics at university, I didn’t really enjoy quantum mechanics but loved working on the technical side and programming. When I switched degree direction I was introduced to control systems and ended up getting a job after university as a control systems engineer. I have a science degree (B.Sc) rather than an engineering degree (B.Eng) but no one really minds.
