My Work:
I worked in the NHS as a Principal Clinical Physiologist Scientist in Cardiology, before joining St. Georges University.
For me it’s all about the heart! I teach how and why the heart goes wrong and how we find out and how we fix it!

Students will attend lectures, both face to face and online; seminars, tutorials, case-based learning, data interpretation exercises, group work, computer-aided learning, clinical skills training in simulated environments and clinical placements. They have anatomy tutorials in the Anatomy suite during their first year and spend time working with the specimens in an extensive pathology museum.
Case based learning (CBL) allows small groups to work together to discuss and debate clinical cases and review patient history, medication, diagnostic tests and results to identify the correct diagnosis.
Small group tutorials in the final year are conducted with external Clinical Scientists who are specialists in their field, providing you with an opportunity for Q&As with some of the UK’s leading scientists, working at the cutting-edge of cardiac healthcare science.
On placement in some of London’s and the South East’s top cardiac units , students build a portfolio of clinical and professional skills and competencies, to the standard expected for professional registration.

What I'd do with the prize money:
I would buy some
accessible skill building equipment and demonstration equipment to take around schools so that pupils can learn more about the heart! -
Education:
I went to a mixed state secondary school and took 4 A levels – Art, Biology, Chemistry and Maths. I then started working as a student cardiac physiologist at Hillingdon and Harefield Hospitals, while studying for a HTEC in Medical Physics and Physiological Measurement.
Later I decided to study for a Biology BSc, and then an MSc. in Cardiology.

I worked in hospitals, in industry and now in academia!

Current Job:
I am a senior lecturer in clinical physiology with a specialism in clinical cardiac physiology science and my main interest is abnormal heart rhythms.
This involves using science to diagnose and treat abnormal heart rhythms – sometime with a big electrical shock!
