Education:
I went to high school at Bishopbriggs Academy and left with 2 A’s (Math’s and History) and 3 B’s (English, Chemistry, and Biology) at Higher and an Advanced Higher B in History. I started University straight after high school and studied Biomedical Science at the University of Strathclyde for 4 years and left University with a 2:2 classification for my degree. I then went straight into studying for a Master’s in Industrial Biotechnology also at the University of Strathclyde funded by IBioIC. This degree was collaborative and meant I had classes at other universities including Uni of Edinburgh, Uni of Glasgow, Uni of Highlands and Island, and Heriot-Watt University. I did my project studying how light affects micro-algal growth at a commercial fishery. Following this and after 6 months off I moved to New Zealand to pursue my PhD at the University of Auckland. I studied the microbiology of vineyards and wine ferments and how these are affected by space and time. I finished my PhD in 2023 and moved back to Glasgow.
