About Me:
I live with my partner in Stockport, Manchester, but I’m originally from Malaysia. I’m a research software engineer and I enjoy climbing, cooking, gardening and DIY.

My Work:
I write software for microscopes that we use to see proteins and how they work together. These images help us develop better medicines to treat diseases. I also look after the big computers we use to process our scientific data.
-
My Typical Day:
I work from home most of the time, so my day starts with going for a morning walk, and then having a coffee while I plan what I’ll do that day. Most days I start work around 9am, and I finish around 5.30pm, with about an hour for lunch when I feel hungry. Every day is different – sometimes I spend all my time meeting with others to discuss our work, and other times I focus on coding tasks.
-
Education:
I went to school in Malaysia
-
Qualifications:
I did 10 GCSE subjects, followed by Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Maths at A-Level. Then I did a BEng in Mechanical Engineering, MSc in Biomedical Engineering, and a PhD in Biomedical Imaging at the University of Southampton.
-
Work History:
I’ve had lots of part-time jobs whilst at University – I showed new and prospective students around the campus, answered the phones to students applying for courses through Clearing, teaching undergraduate tutorials when I was a PhD student, being a receptionist, writing content for the University blog, and taking notes for students with additional learning needs. My favourite job from then was my notetaker job, because I got to attend many cool lectures without having to study for the exams!
After my PhD, I started my current job as a research software engineer.

Current Job:
